Indigenous Cattle
Our farm proudly raises native Tamil Nadu cattle breeds, preserving these invaluable genetic treasures while they contribute to our regenerative agricultural practices. These indigenous cattle thrive in free-range conditions where they can express their natural behaviors and fulfill their evolutionary potential.
Our Native Breeds
Pulikulam Cattle Also known as "Jallikattu maadu," these cattle have a special place in Tamil culture and our farming system. Their distinctive appearance includes a compact body, sharp horns, and varied coat colors. Pulikulam cattle demonstrate impressive heat tolerance and disease resistance while requiring minimal veterinary intervention. Their natural grazing patterns help stimulate diverse plant growth in our pastures, contributing to increased biodiversity.
Manapparai Cattle Compact and agile, the Manapparai cattle display a beautiful gray-white coat that helps them cope with our region's heat. These cattle are prized for their remarkable endurance and ability to thrive even during resource-scarce periods. Historically valued for both agricultural work and ceremonial purposes, they represent an important part of Tamil Nadu's cultural heritage while contributing valuable manure for our soil regeneration efforts.
Kangayam Cattle The distinguished Kangayam cattle feature a striking white coat with black markings on their extremities and a prominent hump. Known for their exceptional drought resistance and work capacity, these cattle have evolved over centuries to withstand Tamil Nadu's climate challenges. Their medium-sized frames are deceptively powerful, making them excellent working animals while requiring minimal resources. The Kangayam's natural adaptation to local conditions means they resist diseases that often affect imported breeds.
Benefits of Indigenous Cattle
Our native cattle breeds play a central role in our regenerative farming approach. Their grazing patterns stimulate plant growth while their hooves provide gentle soil aeration. The nutrient-rich manure they produce feeds our soil's microbiome, building fertility naturally without chemical inputs.
By maintaining these indigenous breeds in free-range conditions, we're not only preserving irreplaceable genetic resources but also benefiting from cattle that are perfectly adapted to our local environment. Their presence on our farm helps restore ecological balance while producing high-quality milk and contributing to the health of our land for generations to come.
